John LeMoyne Jones

John LaMoyne Jones, age 97, died July 28, 2023. He was born December 3, 1925, the only child of Grace and Herman Jones at New Blaine, AR. LeMoyne graduated from Paris High School as Class President and at age of 17 he volunteered for the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to a destroyer in the North Atlantic during WWII and was present at Omaha Beach on D-Day.  He served from 1943 to1946. He attended Hendrix College and graduated from Bailey Technical Institute in engineering at St. Louis, Mo. After several years of working in the industry he taught heating/air and refrigeration at Petit Jean Tech (now UACCM) in Morrilton.

LeMoyne was an elder at Park Hill Presbyterian Church. He was a founding volunteer at the Clinton Presidential Library where he greeted visitors from around the world at the front door two days a week until age 95. He was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award in 2008 by President Clinton. He also volunteered one day a week at St. Luke’s Respite Care and led a class in current events at the Shepherd Center.  He was a member of the American Legin.

Mr. Jones was preceded in life by his parents, daughter, Karen Elizabeth Jones and first wife, Doris Jean McGuire.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karene Jones. Children: Barbara Ogden, David (Sandy) Jones, Candice (Michael) Jackson, Dale (Susan) Hanson, Connie (Steve) Wear. Grandchildren: Jennifer Ogden, Stephanie Wear, Beth (Cole) Thomas, Allen (Jennifer) Wear, John (Tiffany) Jackson, Jeffrey (Andrea) Jackson, Marcus (Anna) Hanson, Danielle (Raleigh) Bourg, Derek Hanson. Great grandchildren: Kanada Weigt, Abbigail Davidson, Darcy Thomas, Molly Thomas, Aletheia Jackson, Amiens Jackson, Addison Bourg, Emerson Bourg, Zachery Jackson, Tristan Jackson, Ryker Jackson and Everly Jackson.

The family will host a memorial service at Park Hill Presbyterian Church in North Little Rock on August 10, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception and visitation.
