John William Lovell Jr.

John William Lovell Jr., born on March 30, 1941, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late John and Dorothy Lovell, passed away on September 18, 2024, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He lived a life dedicated to service and community, leaving behind a legacy that will be missed by many.

John served honorably in the Navy for an impressive 28 years. He held the rank of Commander and specialized in aircraft maintenance, reflecting his commitment to excellence in his duties. As a member of the Seabees, he exemplified the spirit of resilience and dedication that defined his military career.

In addition to his military service, John was deeply involved in his local community. He was a devoted member of Levy Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and purpose. His faith guided him through life and inspired those around him. Furthermore, he was an active participant in the Gideons and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), contributing his time and efforts to support fellow veterans.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carole Lovell; two children, Mary Sommer (John) and Charles Lovell (Suzanne); grandchildren, Ryne Lamm (Tara), Eric Lamm (Annie), Jackson, Grace and Benjamin Lovell; great grandchildren, Andrew, Kaleb, Katherine, and Josie Lamm; his sister Janet Tiner; and a host of close family and friends. 

John is preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Ryne Lamm, Eric Lamm, Jackson Lovell, Benjamin Lovell, Jimmy Joe Paul, and Larry Killett.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Smith, Roger Edwards, Michael Collins, Tom Hunt, Steve Baxter, and J.D. Sexton.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Levy Baptist Church, located at 3501 Pike Ave, North Little Rock, AR 72118. A funeral service will follow immediately after, starting at 10:30 AM. His final resting place will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, burial with full military honors will be at 12:00 PM on the same day, located at 1501 W Maryland Ave, North Little Rock, AR 72120.
