John M Pitts Sr.

John Monroe Pitts, Sr., of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born on September 29, 1935, to Daniel Monroe Pitts and Mary Kathleen Baker Dobbins, John lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and a love for family. He proudly served his country during the Korean War as a heavy equipment and dozer operator. In 1960, he started driving semi-trucks and remained a proud member of Teamsters Local 878 for more than 20 years, driving for Smith's Trucking and ABF, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, John found great joy in hunting, fishing, training and riding horses, and spending time outdoors. He was a member of the Bayou Meto Riding Club, where one of his proudest accomplishments was placing in the Arkansas State Horse Show with his cherished Tennessee Walker, Prince.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 57 years, Helen Marie Herbert Pitts; his second wife of 11 years, Francis Midgett Pitts; his son, John M. Pitts, Jr.; his daughter, Janice M. Pitts Yancey; his son-in-law, Rickey R. Vanpelt; his great-grandson, Preston Daniel Murray; his sister, Betty Robertson;

He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Terry (Tami) Pitts of Conway and Jerry (Kelly) Pitts of Goreville, Illinois; his daughter, Judy Vanpelt of Cabot; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren and his brothers, Vernon (Donna) Pitts of Wilmington, North Carolina, William "Bill" Pitts of Fayetteville, James (Sandy) Pitts of Sheridan, and his sister, Kathy Pitts of Bryant.

He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Kenneth (Carolyn) Herbert of Hensley; sisters-in-law, Glinda (Lloyd) Jones of Jacksonville and Connie Herbert of Gravette; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff of StoneBridge Senior Living of Cabot and to Elite Hospice for the compassion and kindness.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Pitts, Rickey Murray, Dakota Irvin, Dagun Midgett, Brayden Kinard, and Kendall Pitts. Honorary pallbearers: Kyler Oates, Izayah Johnson and Bryson Pitts.
