Johnny R. Cox, age 84, of Amity, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019. He was born on September 19, 1934, in Murfreesboro, the son of Dossie Cox and Alma Sparks Cox. He was preceded in death by one son, James Cox; one great-grandson, Aiden Dewayne Culpepper; his parents; one brother, William Cox; and three sisters, Lois McDonald, Lucille Pollock and Martha Cox. Johnny was a Christian in his faith. He was a logger, hauled pulpwood and a farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising exotic birds. He adored his family and loved spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Virgie Cox of Amity; his children, Louise Goss and Brenda Cox, both of New Jersey, Nancy Cox of Florida, Linda Cox of Arizona, John Cox and Edward Cox, both of Hamilton, Alabama, Linda McCullough of West Monroe, Louisiana, Roger Cox of Columbia, Louisiana, Dorothy Minger of Kelly, Louisiana, Johnny Cox of Wasilla, Alaska and Paula Griggs of Canyon Lake, Texas; his step-children, Tracy Howell of Columbia, Louisiana, and Joyce Howell and Heather Perot, both of Grayson, Louisiana; twenty-nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren (and two on the way); his brother, Gene Cox; his sisters, Velma Griffith of Murfreesboro and Myrtle Cox; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 16, 2019 in the Midway Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Arlie Francis and Bro. Bobby Lock officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Hicks Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be John Cox, Edward Cox, Johnny Cox, Kenny Smith, Jesse Sharp, Bill Sharp, Tyral Fitzgerald and John Bradford. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
