Joyce Ashbrook Moore, our sweet little mother, passed away October 6, 2025, after a short illness. She was 94 years old. Born in Alpine, Arkansas, to Miley Ashbrook and Effie Leona Buck, she loved to tell us stories about living just up the road from her Aunt Cornelius and Uncle Carroll and their 13 children. She never lacked for playmates. They did not have much, but she didn’t know it. The one room schoolhouse where she went to school is still there, and that is where we still have yearly family reunions.
Later, her dad went to work for Reynolds Metal, and the family moved to Bauxite, and you know how anyone who lived in Bauxite during those years made a lifetime of wonderful memories and friends. Mom loved the school, the church, and her friends. She was a cheerleader, and that’s how she met our dad and her future husband. It seems my dad had the job of driving the cheerleaders to the football games. What a job! Ha!
Well, they married on May 26, 1949, and raised 4 children. Mom worked at Westinghouse for 20 years, wrote a book of poems, and a number of little skits that she and friend, Pat Stuckey, performed in Benton area churches. No one could make better cornbread dressing or fried pies!
After we children were grown and gone, she and Dad took up Motorcycling. They rode motorcycles all over the country with friends, George and Lillie Sinclair.
Joyce was a founding member of Temple Baptist Church on Hwy 67, which was a very important part of her life.
Preceding her in death: her parents, 3 infant siblings, her husband of 72 years, Junior Moore, grandsons, Brian Sims and Shane Moore, her brother Delano Ashbrook, and her sister Nelda Darnell.
Those she left to miss her dearly: daughters, Regina Sullivan and Marla Davies, sons, Dennis (Doris) and Danny (Debbie) Moore, 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Ann Ashbrook, nieces, Monica, Rhonda, Sonya, and Marsha Lambascus, and nephew Alan Harrison. Her church friends, Keith and Ruth Mitchell, Loal and Ann Cotton, Bro and Mrs. Ivy, and friends Pat Stuckey and Virgie Lattin (Wayne Suggs). All of these friends faithfully came to see Mom.
Last but not least, the family would like to thank the great staff and her many friends at Benton Senior Living (Mt. Carmel). Thank you so much for the care she received there.
Thank you, Dr. Mark Vice, as her Primary Care Physician.
A special thanks to Saline Memorial Hospital and their great staff, to the great staff at Evergreen Rehab and Senior Living, and lastly to Gentiva Hospice.
Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
