Joyce Quillin

Our sweet Joyce, wife, mom, memaw, and friend went to our Heavenly Father on July 5th. Joyce Corrine Coon Quillin, a resident of Gurdon, was born July 10, 1932 in Whelen Springs. She was the oldest child of the late Conway and Effie Coon. Joyce was cherished by her brother and sisters; Clois (Wilma Jean), Conrad (Martha), Donald (Linda), Billy Wayne (Wanda), Steve (Wanda) Joel (Donna), Myrle (Boyd Pierce), and Theresa (Gary Thornton). She is preceded in death by her brothers Joel and Conrad.

Joyce married the love of her life, Doug Quillin, on November 20, 1953. Together they had two sons Randall and Ronald. Doug and Joyce were inseparable most of their married life working together serving the Lord at Center Point Baptist Church, volunteering at the Gurdon Senior Adult Center, and operating their own business, Doug ' s Grocery where Joyce earned the distinction of being the best biscuit maker in town. Joyce also worked several years for Overman and Levi Strauss.

Joyce loved to cook; her biscuits and tatters have always been her grandchildren and great grandchildren ' s favorite, because she put " the love into them. " Joyce was the type of cook who brought something for everyone at church or family gatherings. She would have ice chests and other containers stuffed with all kinds of delicious food because she always wanted to make sure there was plenty to eat. She had strong faith and wanted each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and people she came into contact with to accept Christ as their savior and live growing up with faith, love and understanding of the Lord ' s word. Nothing brought her more joy than watching her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.

Joyce will be dearly missed by Doug, Randall and his wife Beverly, Ronald and his wife Sonja; grandchildren Brett and his wife Taryn, Cassie and her husband Chris Cagle, Cody and his wife Tiffany, Kayla and her husband Clint Stockton, Lauren Quillin, and great-grandchildren: Aria, Brantlee, Hayden, Jacob, Jason, Mason, Meghan, Sarah, and Zoey. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends; Horace and Jean Bell, Rita Easley, Betty Hill, Gayla Loy and Mike Loy.

The family would like to thank her special caretakers, Rita and Betty, Dr. Robertl Dorman and staff, Dawana Smith, Brandi Russell, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Lahham and staff at UAMS Neurology clinic for their wonderful care of Joyce as she endured Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Funeral Services will be conducted by Ollie Trout and Free Clower in the chapel of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home at 10:00am Wednesday July 8th. Visitation will be held Tuesday July 7th from 6pm to 8 pm. Interment will be in Richland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Eddie Mc Millan, Danny Melugin, Eddie Roy Wells, James Devalt, James Thomas, and Sammy Thomas.
