Julia is the beloved firstborn of Henry V. and Thelma S. Stevens, and sister to Raymond, Lora, Krista and Rebecca. Born during chinook season in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1964, she never lost her love of the mountains and the spirit of the West. As a child, she was the mastermind of every Christmas pageant on Sunnyview Lane, where she made costumes, directed, and guided the neighborhood children to their annual performance. She was also a mathematician and theologian who crafted her love of logic and numbers with a pure faith into a singular foundation that saw her through her life’s trials and elevated her many successes.
Julia had too many accomplishments in her short life to list. However, she would tell you her greatest pride was “being a mom” to her five children: Henry, Sebastian, Gabriel, Mariah, and Brenna. Julie’s generous, kind, unconditional and playful spirit shone through as she raised her children. Here are some beautiful examples of why her children loved her.
She arranged Henry and Alexandra’s bedroom during their honeymoon so they had place that felt like home upon their return.
She was so incredibly proud of Sebastian when he received his pilot’s license and always made time to talk about everything and anything including his cat, Pearl, regardless of the hour.
She loved listening about Gabriel’s hobbies, no matter how complex. Above all she loved to see her son be passionate.
She brightened and lightened Mariah’s days while she was away on her far-flung travels with surprise packages of seasonal gifts and hand-written notes.
She embarrassed Brenna with her lighthearted playfulness by lip syncing “Slipping Through My Fingers” to her baby girl in front of the whole school.
While Julia was taken far too early, her parents will remember her determination and perseverance, her sisters will remember her generosity and creativity and her children will not forget what their mother did for them. The strength and love that she gave them all will be their strongest support in their life.
