Junior "June" Lee Ammons (Point Cedar) died peacefully at home Friday, June 27, 2025, surrounded by his beloved Debra (Debby) Rose Ault Ammons, wife of 54 years, and daughters Regina Gayle Ammons (Southaven, MS) and Jacynda Lea Ammons (Hot Springs). Junior was a Baptist, a hunter, fisher, athlete, fan of the Razorbacks and Elivs Presley, but what people will remember most is he was a good man.
Junior was born at home in Nola, AR, January 19, 1946, to Earnest Vestal Ammons and Julia Estella Syler Ammons. He is survived by his two sisters Ernestine Bordsen (Little Rock, AR) and V. Louise Henderson (Hot Springs Village). He was predeceased by his parents, sister Bonnie Mae Noggle, and brothers Donald Ammons, JL Ammons, and Waymon Ammons.
Junior’s love of sports started at Mt. Pine where he played baseball and basketball. Junior was one of the best pitchers in Garland County, so much so that he was brought in as a ringer (under an alias) one night in a baseball game after he graduated. After high school he did not hang up his cleats, moving to the softball mound playing for leagues in Garland County for many years. Junior passed on his love of sports teaching his daughters how to play basketball and played with them on their dirt court in the backyard well into his 60s. Junior loved watching Regina play and coach basketball, and spent many hours talking about college football and basketball with Jacynda
Junior loved the outdoors. He learned to fish and hunt at a young age with his Daddy and brothers. That love for the outdoors extended to his career of over 30 years for Weyerhaueser where he traveled all over the mountains of Arkansas surveying timber and identifying property boundaries. Upon his retirement, he continued spending as much time outdoors as possible, including camping with Debby.
Along with his love of Debby, Regina, Jacynda, and the outdoors, Junior loved spending time with family and friends. He spent many hours with all of his nieces and nephews hunting, fishing, driving the ski boat, camping, playing basketball, softball and enjoying many laughs everyone will remember.
Junior loved a lot of people, but until their deaths he especially loved hunting and fishing with Jake Ault, Jimmy Huff, Richard Bordsen, JT Redden, Jerry Noggle, and his brother Waymon. The ones who will continue his love of hunting and fishing include Dennis Mitchell, Hank Carpenter and Kevin Mehalic.
Cremation services will be provided by Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of formal services, visitors are welcome at the family residence. If you would like to honor Junior, consider making a donation to St. Jude's donation.
