Karen Beth (Turman) Haywood, passed away on August 30, 2024 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, at the age of 78. She was born on August 4, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew into a remarkable woman whose passion for life and family left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Karen's educational and professional journey began at Piggott School until 10th grade, eventually obtaining her GED in Helena, Arkansas. She later attended her mother's school of cosmetology in Kennett, Missouri, where she honed her skills. She became a beloved self-employed beautician and dedicated homemaker. Her professionalism and warmth made her a cherished figure in her community, as she connected with clients and friends alike through her work in beauty.
She left school at age 16 and married her husband, Jack Haywood, on August 25, 1962. Karen and her family eventually moved to Hot Springs, AR, and they called it home for approximately 40 years (except for a couple of years where the family lived in Maypearl, TX). While in TX, Karen and the family witnessed the filming of the movie Of Mice and Men. Karen loved her family, and she was intensely loyal and a strong advocate for family traditions and christian values. She always strove to do the right thing and enjoyed being with family as often as possible.
In her personal life, Karen found joy in a variety of hobbies. She thrived in decorating and exploring different crafts, had a green thumb for gardening, and was an avid reader, particularly interested in history and family genealogy. Her zest for life included aspirations of traveling and experiencing new places, which she hoped to do whenever possible.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Jack Haywood, their two sons, Jason (Liz) Haywood and Brad (Shannon) Haywood, and one daughter, Stacey (Mike) Stephens. She was a proud grandmother to Jamie Baker, Aaron Haywood, Samantha Haywood, Makayla Haywood, Hayzley Haywood, Kenzie Stephens, Karly Stephens, Kayley Haywood, Cole Haywood, and Cade Haywood. Additionally, she was a great-grandmother to Carter Baker, Isabella Baker, and Everleigh Baker. Karen also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends who were touched by her kindness and spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father, E.G. Turman; mother, Lura Turman; and brother, Travis Turman. Their memories will forever remain a part of Karen's legacy, one that reflects her love for family and her enduring strength.
Karen Beth (Turman) Haywood will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love, creativity, and dedication to her family will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
