Kathy M. Tate, a cherished member of the Hot Springs community and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at her home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Born on July 24, 1949, Kathy was a devoted High School graduate who embraced life with a passion for crafts, shopping, and spending treasured moments with her grandchildren. She was particularly known for her immense and beautiful collection of glass bluebirds, a testament to her eye for beauty and love of collecting.
Kathy’s life was deeply rooted in faith as a proud member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Her enduring commitment to her family began with her marriage to her beloved husband, Donnie Tate, on February 19, 1968. Together, they built a lifetime filled with love and support.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Donnie Tate of Hot Springs, Arkansas; her mother, Corine Varnell of Denton, Texas; her sons, Donnie Tate Jr. (Kim) and Chris Tate (Carolyn), both of Hot Springs; and her sister Patsy Kelsy of Denton, Texas. Kathy was also a devoted grandmother to Brandi Odom, Jaycey Landon, Christina Tate, Kayla Tate, and a proud great-grandmother of five wonderful great-grandchildren. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of dear friends who will all remember her kindness and warmth.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, William Johnson; her sister, Jerry Lynn Johnson; and her brothers, Jerry Johnson and Mark Johnson.
The family wishes to honor those who will serve as pallbearers during the funeral service: Chris Tate, Todd McBroom, Tim McBroom, Michael Kelsy, William McBroom Jr., and Wesley Hoop.
Honorary pallbearers include Donnie Tate Jr., Ken Tate, Terry Tate, Barry McBroom, and David McBroom.
A visitation will be held on May 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home - Hot Springs, located at 2205 Airport Road, Hot Springs, Arkansas. This will be followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. and concluding at 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Graveside at Memorial Gardens to follow immediately after.
Kathy M. Tate’s legacy is one of devotion, grace, and love—a spirit that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, as well as in the vibrant hues of her treasured glass bluebirds. With deep respect and affection, we remember a life beautifully lived.
