Kay Yvonne (McCarty) McCullough, 82, of Mt. Ida (formerly of North Little Rock) died peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024. She was born on August 21, 1941, to the late Harold David and Marjorie (Reed) McCarty in Linn County, KS.
Kay grew up and attended school in Osawatomie, Kansas and was fortunate to meet her future husband at a 4-H square dance while they were both still in high school. She attended Kansas State University for one year before marrying Ray on August 23, 1959, in Beagle, Kansas after which they moved to Manhattan, KS while Ray finished his degree.
The next 36 years took them through Ray’s career with the Food & Drug Administration from Kansas City, MO to Omaha, NE to St. Louis, MO to Little Rock, AR and then to Nashville, TN during which time Kay wore many hats as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. They finally retired and returned to Arkansas, settling in Mount Ida, Arkansas for the next 25 years before returning to Central Arkansas in recent years to be closer to her family.
Kay was a lifelong homemaker who occasionally worked in secretarial positions as her children got older. She was always very crafty, loved to decorate and had an amazing green thumb. Kay was above all about others. She always sought to give the absolute best she could to all of those around her whether family, friend, or friends of her children.
Kay is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ray McCullough and is survived by their four children, Dan McCullough (Kristan) of Maumelle, AR, LeAnn Rollans (Dan) of East End, AR, Debbie Higgins (David) of Sherwood, AR, Kevin McCullough (Ede) of Mt. Juliet, TN; eleven grandchildren, Megan Taphorn (Matt), Ryan McCullough (Emily), Connor McCullough, Lacie McInturff, Austin Rollans, Justin Rollans (Julie), Zach Higgins, Kylie Higgins, Bryce Higgins, Allison McCullough, Sarah Kate McCullough; five great grandchildren, Jayden Rollans, Jaxon and Rollans McInturff, Ellie McCullough, Amelia Taphorn; brother and sister-in- law H.D. and Linda McCarty of Derby, KS in addition to several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
There is not enough praise available from the family for the First floor Memory Care team at Woodland Heights and the Gentiva Hospice team. The dedication and commitment of the people that fill these roles is beyond amazing.
Visitation will be 4:30-6:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street, North Little Rock, AR 72114. 501-758-1170.
