Larry Harris

Listen to Obituary

Larry Harris, age 73, of Cabot, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family.

He was born in Ohio and spent most of his life in Arkansas, where he built a home, a career, and a family that meant everything to him. Larry graduated from McClellan High School in 1971.

Larry was a dedicated employee of Union Pacific Railroad, where he faithfully worked for 38 years. Through his hard work and commitment, he ensured his family was always cared for (and spoiled), often asking his kids and grandkids, “Did you need any money?”

He was married to his beloved wife, Jane Harris, for 48 years, and they would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary and his birthday next month. Together, they built a life centered on love, resilience, and family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jane Harris along with daughters, Casey Ulmer and her husband Kyle Ulmer, and Lindsey Williams and her husband Tommy Williams; his brother, Edward Harris; his sister, Tricia Cole; and his sister-in-laws, Paula Mizell and Tricia Kerr.

He was a proud grandfather to Connor Nicholson, Caden Nicholson, Kinley Ulmer, Seth Williams, and Makenzie Williams, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Harris and stepmother Jessie Harris; his mother, Ruth Miller; his sisters, Carolyn Lybrand and Beverly Turner; and his brother, Randy Harris.

Larry had a passion for restoring antique cars, a hobby that reflected his patience, skill, and appreciation for craftsmanship. He was also a skilled craftsman, building two homes almost entirely by himself—something that spoke to his determination, talent, and strong work ethic.

He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including going to the casino, bargain hunting, and fishing—things that brought him joy and many good memories with those he loved.

He was a lifelong animal lover—animals seemed to naturally find their way to him, whether it was a bird at a car wash or dogs he rescued and gave a home.

Known for his humor and personality, Larry had a special gift for giving nicknames to family and friends, a trait that will be remembered with smiles and laughter.

Above all, Larry was a fighter. For over 20 years, he courageously battled multiple forms of cancer with strength and determination, inspiring those around him with his perseverance and faith. In his final days, it was especially important to him to publicly declare his faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ, and he did so through baptism—a moment that brought great peace and assurance to him and his family.

His life was marked by love, generosity, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 25, at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place afterward at Rest Hills in Sherwood, Arkansas.
