Larry Joe Selig

Larry Joe Selig, 84, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 24, 2022, and reunited with his wife Barbara of 62 years. Larry was born June 26, 1938, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Francis Selig and Joseph Selig.

Larry met the love of his life, Barbara Selig, in Hot Springs. They were married for 62 years.  They began their family with the birth of their first son Chris Selig in 1971, followed by Jason Selig in 1977. Larry was an amazing father and a role model for his two sons even to this day.

Larry owned his own appliance company for many years before turning to law enforcement as a reserve deputy in 1979, a full-time deputy in 1981 and then joined the Criminal Investigation Division in 1984 for twelve years where he was one of three investigators.  Larry was elected Garland County Sheriff for six straight terms in office.  Larry retired after twenty-four total years of service.  Larry graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Law Enforcement Academy in 1991 and was promoted to patrol captain until 1992 when he was elected sheriff for the first-time taking office in 1993. During his six terms in office, he was awarded a Federal COPS grant to set up more than one-hundred neighborhood watch programs as well as educational programs in area schools. He also created the marine patrol to monitor area waterways and boater safety educational programs. Larry also initiated the Garland County Sheriff’s Community Work Program using state and local inmates to assist in community service projects. Larry was also a veteran of the United States Airforce.

If anyone needed to locate him you would find him fishing, running trotlines, and camping on Lake Ouachita every moment he could rain or shine with friends and family. Anyone could also find him on Saturdays around a television cheering for the Razorbacks.

Larry, also known as Papa or Pops, could absolutely fix just about anything! He loved and cherished his wife, Barbara, his family and grandchildren.  Larry was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved all of his grandchildren in the family; Madison Selig and Larry Michael Selig, McKinley Selig and Bentley Selig, Bailey Sanders, husband to Madison, Kennedy Dawson, Kaitlyn Selig, and Kyler Pearson Selig.  Larry also cherished and loved his two daughters-in-law, Lynlee Selig and Amanda Selig.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Selig and Joseph Selig and his wife, Barbara Selig.  He is survived by his proud sons, Chris Selig and Jason Selig, all of Hot Springs. Additional survivors include his brother, John Selig, sister, Josie Smith and brother-in-law, B.J. Smith. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he loved dearly.
