Laura Powell
Laura Powell, 93, of Gravel Ridge passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011. She lived most of her life in Stamford, Connecticut before moving to Arkansas. In her younger years, she supported the war effort by working in the manufacturing industry. Later, she worked along side her husband at their family owned gas station. She moved to Arkansas in 2001 to live with her daughter. Laura was a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
She is survived by her daughter, Claire Leheny of Gravel Ridge; son, Earl Powell, of Southbury, Connecticut; two grandsons, Michael Leheny and wife, Shawna, of Vilonia and William Leheny and wife, Ana, of Bakersfield, California; and one great-grandson, Brayden Leheny, of Vilonia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Powell; four sisters; and one brother. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Cabot Nursing and Rehab Center and Arkansas Hospice for all their kind and loving care.
A memorial service will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas at 10:00 AM on June 1, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southbury Training School Foundation, P.O. Box 872, Southbury, Connecticut 06488.
