Laurence Dale Covington, lovingly known as “Dale” by his family, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026. He was born on February 10, 1949, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Omar (Homer) and Elizabeth Covington.

Dale lived a life full of creativity, kindness, and quiet strength. He had a deep passion for art and earned a master’s degree in fine arts. Whether he was painting, shaping pottery, or sculpting clay and stone, he found joy in creating and sharing that gift with others. He loved listening to the Blues and Bluegrass music, peaceful days spent fishing, and most of all, the time spent with his family-who meant everything to him.

He was a proud American who served his country in the United States Navy, and he carried great pride in his Cherokee heritage. To those who knew him best, Dale was more than his accomplishments – he was a steady presence, a source of wisdom, and someone who loved deeply. He especially cherished being “Boppo” to his grandchildren, a role that brought him immense joy and pride. He also shared a special bond with his son Marcus through their mutual love and talent for art, and he took great pride in that connection. He also deeply admired his daughter Mackenzie’s artistic talents in interior design, and her work as a master florist, and he was incredibly proud of his daughter Malorie as she completed her journey through Respiratory Therapy School. Dale was proud of all his children and their accomplishments, and he never missed a chance to show his love and support.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joe Covington, Jim Matthews, and Dave Covington; sister, Phyllis Pettypool; and his nephews Chris Pettypool and Terry Sanders.

He leaves behind a family who will forever hold him in their hearts; his children, Mackenzie Kirton, Marcus Covington, and Malorie (Joe) Taylor; his beloved grandchildren, Ella Kooyer, Nicholas Covington, Amelia Taylor and Haisley Taylor; his siblings, Faye (Johnny) Goodwin, Ray Covington, Danny (Sharon) Covington, and Helen; as well as his special cousin and dear friend, Lynn Covington. Dale also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him deeply and cherish the memories they shared with him.
