Laverne Cox Orr, age 76, of Arkadelphia, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 14, 1936 in the Hearn Community the daughter of the late Lawis Ward Cox and Lois West Cox. Laverne was a member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia where she was in the Friendship Sunday School class. She attended Henderson State University and graduated with a BSN, RN degree from UAMS with the school's 2nd class of nursing in June of 1958. Laverne worked at Clark County Memorial Hospital, Clark County Nursing Homes and retired from Clark County Health Department after twenty-one years as a clinic nurse. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles W. Orr on December 20, 1958.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Charlie" Orr; and one sister, Betty Ruth Cox.
Survivors are a son, Steve Orr and wife, Vickie of Malvern; a daughter, Jan Orr Parsons and husband, Odas; a acquired special daughter, Brenda Gills all of Arkadelphia; two precious granddaughters,, Reagan and Taylor Parsons; three step-grandchildren, Heather Parsons and husband, Andrew, Mary Lee Brown, Jason Dyer and wife, Amanda; two step-great-grandchildren, Adyson and Camryn Dyer.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 30th at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.
