She was born on April 2, 1938, in Royal, the daughter of James Orville Ketchum and Ruby Agnes Fisher. On December 8, 1956, she married the love of her life, James Vanderburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Linda Ingram.
LaVerne was a Christian and a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She and her family started a blue grass band called Family Tradition., which included her husband, son, daughter, grandson, Tim, and granddaughter, Amber, a homemaker, a master seamstress and an avid flower gardener, artist. LaVerne and Jim had an arts and crafts business called “Wood-n-Hearts”. They traveled all over the state and surrounding states doing craft fairs. She also repaired cane and wicker furniture as a business at one time. She even wrote a personal book of her memoirs of growing up titled “Days of Sunshine”. Her greatest love was her family.
