Leo Henry Kordsmeier, Jr.

Leo Henry Kordsmeier Jr., of Maumelle, died Friday, January 26, 2024, at age 79. He was born August 19, 1944, in Little Rock, and was preceded in death by his parents Leo Henry Kordsmeier Sr. and Dorothy Kenney Kordsmeier.

He married Linda Cox, of Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1967 and raised four children, Jim (Holley); Jeffery (Heather); Jennifer (Woody Howton) and John Michael (Stefanie Harrison). His eight grandchildren were a constant source of joy and inspiration.

He is also survived by his brothers Bill of Mayflower and John of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and sister, Marcie Woodruff, of Little Rock.

He began work at age 12 delivering flyers by bicycle. He graduated from Little Rock Catholic High in 1962. He was known for his dry wit, church and community involvement and work ethic.

A pharmacist for a half century, he started his career as a delivery boy for Baker Rexall Drug in Southwest Little Rock, returning to work at the store after graduating from pharmacy school at Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. He bought the store in the 1980s with partner Dick Halbrook and re-named it Cloverdale Pharmacy. He was known to open the store in the wee hours to help parents with sick children. He was robbed at gunpoint, twice. He sold the store years later and worked for K-Mart and Harvest Foods before retiring.

He was a member of St. Theresa parish for many years and later was a member of St. Joseph Church in Conway and then Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in North Little Rock.

He was PTO president at St. Theresa, grand knight of the Knights of Columbus #6615, made lifelong friends in the Greater Little Rock Jaycees and inducted into Jaycee International.

He loved photography, any kind of railroad train, 1,000-piece puzzles and traveling with friends.

The family wishes to thank the friendly staff at Encore West for their professional care.

A rosary service will be at 9:30 a.m. with funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in North Little Rock [7006 Jasna Gora Drive). Interment will be at the parish columbarium afterward.
