Leona Leth Ellis, born on August 20, 1935, in Dublin, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. A woman of grace and dedication, Leona lived a life marked by devotion to family, a passion for handiwork, and a warm presence cherished by all who knew her.
Leona’s career journey included her role as a phone operator for Southwestern Bell, where she contributed her skills with diligence and care. She later dedicated over two decades to Leisure Arts, showcasing her commitment and work ethic in a company she valued deeply. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Leona was a stay-at-home mother who found immense joy in nurturing her family and creating a loving home.
Her personality shone through her many interests and talents. Leona was a remarkable seamstress, crocheter, and knitter, crafts in which she excelled and through which she expressed her creativity and patience. She delighted in spending time in her yard, cultivating beautiful gardens that were a testament to her green thumb. Her azaleas and roses were particularly admired, reflecting the care and love she poured into every aspect of her life.
Leona’s family was the heart of her existence. She is survived by her beloved children, Lisa Roberts (Kevin) and Michael Ellis, who carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. Her grandchildren, Beth Hawley (Colby), Zachary Roberts, and David Ellis, remember her fondly for her warmth and guidance. The joy of Leona’s life extended to her great-grandchildren: Aiden, Cole, Henry, and Jaxon, who were a source of endless happiness for her. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Murlette Pallo (Tom), along with many nieces and nephews who were touched by her gentle spirit.
Leona was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lonnie and Mittie Pait, her cherished husband of 59 years, Gene Ellis, whose partnership and love shaped much of her life, and by her grandson, Andrew Roberts. She also mourns the loss of three brothers and eight sisters, whose memories remain a part of her story.
Leona Leth Ellis’s life was one of quiet strength, profound love, and enduring artistry. Her contributions to her family and community stand as a testament to the values she held dear. She will be remembered with deep respect and affection by all who had the privilege to know her.
