Leroy Samuel Bennett, 87, lovingly known as "Poppy", passed away September 24, 2012. He was born in Magnolia, the youngest of eight children of Charles Henry and Leola Thomas Bennett. Preceded in death by his parents, son, Leroy Samuel Bennett, Jr. and five brothers and sisters, he is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Doris "Smitty" Bennett and daughter, Janet Barker, both of Alexander; sisters, Carolyn Meyers and Francile Foreman of Magnolia; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sam was a WWII veteran, a member of Masonic Lodge #34 in Benton and worked for Johnson Controls for 30 years. Sam enjoyed the outdoors and was an excellent gardener.
A special thank-you to Dr. Moffett and his staff for the loving care that Sam received. Thanks to Dr. David Smith and Baptist Hospice for the care and compassion they provided for him during his illness.
Visitation will be this evening, Tuesday, from 5-7 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be Wednesday, September 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Rebecca Boggan. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
