Linda Joan Herndon was born on February 10, 1947 to Alvin and Doreen Howlett of Little Rock. On Friday, May 16, 2025, Linda passed away peacefully in the care of her loving family. Linda was a Christian and found great comfort in her daily devotional and Bible studies. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Doreen Howlett, her son in law James Givens, and her niece Candida Howlett.
Those left to cherish the memories are her husband of 61 years William Lee Herndon, Jr, Daughters, Lynn Givens (James), Kris Hall (Alan), Jaime Burris (Matt). Six grandchildren: William Givens (Payton), Thomas Givens, Colby Hall, Natalie Hall, Tyner Burris, Tinley Burris and one great granddaughter, Theia Givens as well as her brother, Bill Howlett (Sue) and her cousins, extended family, and friends.
In her early days, Linda was regarded as something of a miracle. She was born prematurely and very small in a time that had not yet seen the medical advancements we have today. Through the love and care of her parents, she thrived. In her childhood, Linda enjoyed a country life with her parents and younger brother with all the joys that brings…hunting, fishing, gardening, playing in the creek with cousins and friends during long summers.
Linda was a devoted wife to her high-school sweetheart, Bill, a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family gave her great joy and she took pride in her people and spending time with them. Although not prone to plan an event, if you did, she would surely be there and talk of the gathering for days to come.
Prior to her retirement, Linda was a Baptist Health Medical Center employee for many years and enjoyed her work and the caring professionals she felt privileged to work alongside. Linda also loved a good project, painting, reading a good book, crochet, or cooking. To be fair, she started a few more projects than she finished, but she enjoyed them just the same. Linda will be dearly loved and greatly missed by friends and family but she would want us to take comfort in knowing that she is at peace.
