Linda "Omi" Pledger

In her final days, Linda Malone Pledger spent her time reinforcing her lifetime lesson to all of us—Love Builds up

She spent the last few weeks of her life celebrating her love for all around her. She went out on the boat, made art with her friends, celebrated her son’s birthday and her 57th wedding anniversary. As her energy waned, she gave energy to all of us.

She was more than words could accurately describe. She was everyone’s person. She was a role model to generations of children and adults. She was a quiet hero to anyone seeking advice, empathy, or simply someone to sit with. Her smile changed everything. It was powerful and infectious, and it could turn darkness into light.

The legacy of love she left in everyone is a lesson that was meant to grow.

She was born in Russellville, AR on September 17, 1949, grew up in Little Rock, AR, got her PHD from LSU and spent her career teaching and mentoring students at UALR (including winning the Ted and Virginia Bailey Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching). She met the love of her life, Buddy Pledger on a blind date during college at Centenary, and enjoyed a love that continues into eternity. They built a life together that influences people around the globe.

In addition to her husband and best friend, Buddy Pledger, she is survived by her sisters Brenda Breckling (Kenny Besser), Teresa Bechtel (Mike) her daughter, Kelly Pledger Weeks (Matt), her son Matt Pledger (Brandy), her grandchildren-Savannah Pledger, Avery Weeks, Forest Pledger, and Hayden Weeks; her loyal and ever-protective dog, Ripley; and so many other friends and family impacted by her love. She is preceded by her parents Cecil and Betty Jo Malone, and her sister Cecilia Kelly.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at Faulkner Lake Orchard on September 12 from 5-9pm. It will be a Mardi Gras theme, so feel free to dress appropriately!
