Linda L. Roper

Linda Covington Pearson Roper passed away peacefully in her home in Sherwood, AR on November 3, 2023. She was born on May 27, 1938, in Galveston, TX.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents Robert L. Covington, Jr., and Dorothy L. Covington, two husbands, Kenneth Pearson and Bill Roper, and her son Mike Pearson. She is survived by her brother Pete Covington (Jan), son Ken Pearson (Joni), four grandchildren Renee Renfro (Mark), Reanna Minton (Kevin), Allison Rhodes (Andres), Kenneth Russell Pearson (Chelsea), great granddaughters Kensley Rickale Pearson, Zara Elena Rhodes and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Linda was one of those people that never met a stranger. Her son, Ken, liked to say she would strike up a conversation with anything standing still. She loved animals and flowers. She loved animals to the point that upon early retirement from Southwestern Bell, after thirty plus years of service, she began volunteering at a veterinary clinic. Her volunteering quickly evolved into a job that eventually included assisting during surgeries.

Linda loved to be in a swimming pool. She began teaching swimming lessons as a teenager and taught countless citizens of McGehee, AR to swim. In retirement she gained certification to teach water aerobics and did so at two locations. However, the thing that she took greatest pride in was teaching two adults to swim during the final years of her life.

Linda came to the United Methodist Church as a teenager. She remained a faithful member until her death. Linda’s expressions of faithfulness included coordinating monthly fellowship meals, singing in choirs, participating in handbell choirs, and teaching Sunday School classes.

The family expresses a deep gratitude to the staff of JC Care Services, Julie Clayton, Traci Lumpkin, Patricia Castellano, Sharon Touscher, Robin Herman, Carla Hicksgovan, Brenda Williams, and Debbie Porta. Over the final years of Linda’s life these ladies provided loving support and care to Linda.

A celebration of life will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM on Thursday, November 09, 2023 with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM the following day, November 10, 2023, McGehee Cemetery, McGehee, AR.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that all remembrances be made to the General Endowment Fund, Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Rd., North Little Rock, AR 72116.
