Linda Sue Johnston, age 82, of Haskell, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 27, 2025, with her daughter Becky, granddaughter Trina, and great-granddaughter Lina by her side. She was born on September 15, 1943, in Sherrill, Arkansas, to Charles Raymond Jacks and Dorothy Tucker.

Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and Mawmaw -truly the heart of her family. She was known for her warm hugs, endless wisdom, strong will, wit and hearty laugh. She graduated from Dollarway High School in 1962 and received her cosmetology license from Arkansas Valley Vocational School. She also worked as a receptionist for H&R Block for several years. Linda dedicated her life to her family and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She found joy in camping in her motor home at Tar Camp, Maumelle Park, and Treasure Lake in Branson. She also enjoyed attending Razorback football games, playing slot machines, gardening, and cooking for those she loved. Linda instilled values of kindness and strength in her children and was always ready with a listening ear and a comforting meal.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Charles and Kenneth Jacks; her son-in-law, Jim Carlisle; and her beloved husband, Edgar “Ed” Johnston, whom she married on May 28, 1982. She is survived by her children: Tammy (Arlin) Akines of Star City, AR; Rebecca Carlisle of Haskell, AR; Robert (Kay Lynn) Johnston of White Hall, AR; and Laurel Gunn of South Milwaukee, WI. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia (Floyd) Bates of Bonanza, AR.

Her grandchildren include Andrew (Jane) Akines of Palmetto, FL; Trina (Jeremy) Bookout of Midlothian, TX; Aaron (Kristen) Johnston of White Hall, AR; Maison (Santanna) Gunn of Ward, AR; Adam (Kristen) Johnston of White Hall, AR; Noah Taylor of South Milwaukee, WI; and Savannah Johnston of White Hall, AR. She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Lina Bookout, Audrey, Truett and Nolan Johnston, Violet, Phoebe, and Whitney Earhart.

Linda’s legacy of love and courageous spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at 402 Dodson Creek Rd. on Wednesday, December 31, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Transformation Project, P.O. Box 20817, White Hall, AR 71612, in tribute to her generous spirit.
