A Hero is someone you hold to a Higher Standard, Loy W. Reese of Benton, Arkansas set that standard for everyone around him. After sixty-five years of marriage, Loy was able to go home to walk the streets of gold with the love of his life whom he lost back in October. He passed away at home surrounded by his family under God’s grace July 13, 2021. Loy was not just a hero in the sense that he served this great country as a Marine in the U.S. Military, but he served and sacrificed in many other ways. For years, Loy spent every Saturday preaching the Lord’s word at local nursing homes. Loy was a leader of two congregations as the lead pastor which he cherished dearly. He also enjoyed solving the world’s problems drinking coffee with his “Coffee Buddies” as he referred. Loy and Goldie also enjoyed taking trips to Branson with their lifelong friends seeing the sights and enjoying the shows. He honored his country, wife, family, and God with the utmost integrity. He will be missed greatly, however, for his family, this is not goodbye, but see you soon…
Loy is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Goldie Reese; his mother, Gladys Reese; his father, Raymond Reese; sister, Charlene Moore; brother-in-law, Bob Moore; and grandson, Denny Siler.
He is survived by his four daughters and their family: Lonnie and Myrna Siler, Dennis and Teresa Gale, Rick and Lesa Davis, Tammy Reese Schoenster; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as a host of family and wonderful friends who love Loy and will miss him always.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM followed by funeral service, officiated by Lonnie Siler and Robbie Gale, at 2:00 PM, Monday, July 19 at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market Street, Benton, Arkansas. Burial to follow at Fowler Cemetery with Brent Davenport, Eric Redding, Robbie Gale, Mark Adkins, Chris Pool, and Jonathan Langley assisting as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Kindred Hospice, Nursing Home Pastoral Staff, and his “Coffee Buddies”.
