Loyd Alvin Howard, 86, of Ward, Arkansas departed this life Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Spring Creek Health and Rehab Facility. Loyd was born February 10, 1940 at Ward, Arkansas, a son of William Isaac and Beatrice (Cook) Howard. He married Miss Sheila Wilson on May 6, 1966, and together they shared 60 years of marriage.
Loyd had a talent for tinkering with small engines, repairing many lawn mowers and tillers. He was known for his squirrel dogs, raising and training several. Some of his most loved dogs being raised by his great nieces. Loyd had a passion for squirrel hunting. Some of his best memories were from the numerous hunting trips made with his dear friend, J. L. White.
He served as a volunteer fireman for the town of Ward, Arkansas for several years. He worked diligently in his garden until his health didn’t allow. He was known for his delicious tomatoes, okra, and purple hull peas and squash. Loyd made the best pickled okra.
Loyd treasured the simple life, a good ole fashioned fish fry, and homemade ice cream.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Loyd was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Sheila Wilson Howard; a sister, Barbara Evertt (Norman); goddaughters Julie Brown, Logan Walker and Riley Bridges; godson Thomas Bridges; nephews Craig Everett and Allen Everett (Ronda); niece Amanda Duke (Matt); five great nephews and one great niece; two great-great nieces and one great-great nephew.
Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2026, followed by funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Cabot. Burial will be in Mountain Springs Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Online guest book atwww.smithfamilycares.com
