Lula Mae Shadwick Ensign

Lula Mae Shadwick Ensign was born on February 26, 1926, at home outside of St. Charles, Arkansas.   

She passed away on January 18, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 97.  Lula lived all

her childhood around St. Charles and a place they call ‘the chute’ in the country.  She married Leroy

Ensign on July 6,1946 and had two sons Herman Lee and Harold Ray. The couple lived in Arkansas

until the late 50s when they moved to Wichita, Kansas where Leroy worked for Cessna Aircraft Co.

 

Lula was a housewife for most of her married life with one exception when she worked at a helmet

factory in Andover, Kansas for a couple of years.  When Leroy retired from Cessna they moved to

Beebe, Arkansas where they enjoyed retirement and being around family.  Lula lived there until

2013 when Leroy passed.  She stayed there in Beebe about a year then she moved back to

Wichita, Kansas in June of 2014.  Lula lived at Presbyterian Manor until she passed away on Thursday.

 

Lula was preceded in death by her father and mother, Rube Shadwick and Tennessee (Tennie)

West Shadwick; her brother Luther Shadwick; her husband Leroy Ensign, and her son Herman Lee

Ensign.

 

She is survived by her son Harold Ray Ensign (wife Carolyn) and by her grandchildren:

Dena Kelly, James Ensign and Ted Ensign and great-grandchildren: Ashlynn Kelly, Blane Kelly,

Tabor Ensign, Zoey Ensign.

 

A Graveside Service is planned for Friday, January 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Beebe Cemetery.
