Mamie Audrey Dixon, age 92 died Thursday, February 09, 2006 at the Twin Rivers Health & Rehab Center in Arkadelphia. She was born the second of five daughters to the late Arnold Aldon and Etta Mae McEntire Sosebee in Habersham, Georgia on May 19, 1913. At age 14, she began working in Habersham Mills, a textile plant, and continued there until her retirement. The day she was 16, May 19, 1929 she and her boyfriend, William Ellis Dixon drove to South Carolina where a Justice of the Peace married them. They celebrated 71 years of happy marriage together before his death in 1999. Because of his failing health, they moved to their new home in Arkadelphia from Habersham, Georgia, in 1993.


Surviving family includes their only son, B. Aldon (Bill) Dixon and his wife, Mary Betty (Snookie) Dixon; two grandchildren, David Aldon Dixon and his wife, Dana, of Crown Point, Indiana and Christopher Noel Dixon and his wife, Misti of Alpine, AR. David's girls, Hannah, Erica, Samantha and Olivia are the great grandchildren. She leaves a number of nieces, nephews, a host of friends, students, and many special friends at Twin Rivers Health and Rehab Center.


Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. Interment in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens will be under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the International Scholarship Fund of Ouachita Baptist University 410 Ouachita St Arkadelphia, AR 71998 Attn: Development Office or to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church 623 Pine St in Arkadelphia.
