Margaret Ysobel Ferguson Pope, 102, was born in New Orleans on February 14, 1914. She passed away on August 17, 2016 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She had resided in Lafayette, Louisiana since 1942. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Gregory Ferguson and his wife, the former Ysobel Roudillon of New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Pope, Sr.; step-son, Jesse E. Pope, Jr. and his wife, Edna Wallace Pope; step foster son, Raymond "Buck" Pope; brother, Edwin R. Ferguson and his wife, Sarah Frances Gregory Ferguson.
She is survived by her nephew, Gregory Ferguson (Stephanie) of Little Rock, Arkansas; niece, Edwina Ferguson Thomas (David) of Marshall, Texas; step-grandson, Jesse E. Pope, III (Patty) of Gulfport, Mississippi; step-grandson, Wallace D. Pope (Virginia) of McComb, Mississippi; step-granddaughter, Jewell Pope Burris of Summit, Mississippi; one great-nephew; two great-great- nieces; five step-great-grandchildren; and nine step-great - great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Pope was a Charter member and past president of Altrusa International, Inc.; member of Ladies of Evangeline Golden Age Club; member of the Krewe of Gabriel; and member of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. She had recently moved to Woodland Heights and was on the verge of embarking on the Arkansas portion of her remarkable journey when it was tragically cut short in the prime of her 102 year old life.
Margaret was the epitome of a proud Southern Lady who walked this earth with perfect posture, her head held high and her shoulders back, gliding with an easy grace. Now she walks with true grace among the angels. She was loved by all who knew her and provided a shining example of how to live a full, joyous and meaningful life.
Funeral is Saturday, August 20, 2016 followed by burial in Lafayette Memorial Park in Louisiana. She requested no flowers, and suggested memorials to the North Little Rock Sertoma Club or the Salvation Army.
