Margaret Wright

Margaret L. Woodfield Wright began her heavenly journey on March 6th, 2013, as her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called this precious lady home to live with Him for eternity.

For almost 10 years Margaret fought a fierce battle with ovarian cancer. During these years she demonstrated her indomitable strength and courage as a role model, and became an inspiration to many who also suffered with cancer.

Margaret was born in Pine Bluff, AR on September 13, 1942 to Alfred and Lou Woodfield. She is preceded in death by her father, and is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Charles W. Wright, her precious daughter Kimberly Wright and husband Mark Lawrence, her mother, Lou Woodfield, sister Janice Vaughn and husband Junior Vaughn, two brothers, Ronnie Woodfield and wife Becky Woodfield, and Dr. Randal Woodfield, nieces Allison Woodfield and Michelle Vaughn, nephews Bret Woodfield (Shelley), Mark Woodfield (Janice), sister-in-law Nola Wright Larrison (Clifford), nephews-in-law John Wright (Sarah) and Dr. Jim Wright.

Margaret was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia for 44 years, where she served as Sunday school teacher and Finance Committee member. For the past five years she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock.

Margaret, a member of the Ouachita Baptist University Class of 1967, graduated with honors with a major in accounting and a minor in economics. A certified public accountant, she completed her graduate degree from North Texas State University in 1969 with a major in accounting and a minor in economics.

During her 36 years of service at Ouachita, Margaret was Chair of the Department of Accounting and Chair of the Division of Business and Economics. From 1993-1999, she served as Director of Corporate and Foundation Programs.

Upon her retirement in 2004, Margaret was honored as a Professor Emeritus of accounting. Friends and former students raised more than $500,000 to establish the Margaret Wright Chair of Accounting. She was instrumental in laying the foundation for the Division of Business and Economics to become a school of business. In 2010 the Business Executive Advisory Board for the Frank D. Hickingbotham School of Business elected her to a lifetime membership.

The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Thomas Sneed and his outstanding and caring staff at Arkansas Oncology, and to all her loving friends and family who have supported her with their love and prayers during her journey. Margaret treasured her special friends who were members of her Sunday School classes at First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia, and at Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, in addition to those dear friends of her P.E.O. chapters in Little Rock and Arkadelphia, and our wonderful neighbors.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Arkadelphia at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to: Margaret Woodfield Wright Scholarship Fund, Ouachita Baptist University, Box 3754, Arkadelphia, AR 71998. Margaret was a selfless person of great love and compassion who touched the lives of everyone she knew. She will be greatly missed.
