Marsha Elizabeth Mitchell Fisher, born on September 19, 1946, in Benton, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024. A devoted member of her community and a passionate advocate for education and social work, Marsha’s life was marked by her unwavering commitment to serving others.
After completing high school, Marsha bravely served her country, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. Her tenure in the military was not only a testament to her leadership abilities but also a reflection of her dedication to her fellow servicemen and women. Following her retirement, she transitioned to the public school system, where she utilized her master's degree in social work to provide vital support to students and their families. Her contributions extended beyond administrative duties; she infused compassion into her role, positively influencing the lives of many.
Marsha was known for her strong and resilient spirit, especially in the face of her illness. Her family was her cornerstone, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She is survived by her brother, Larry Mitchell and his wife Sharon of Alexander, AR; her nephew, Blake Mitchell and his wife Haley of Alexander, AR; as well as her niece, Lauren Dougherty and her husband Chris, and their beloved children, Davis and Landon Dougherty of Fayetteville, AR. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Fisher, and her parents, Morris and Goldie Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Marsha's name to the American Cancer Society. Even though Marsha bravely fought, then ultimately lost, a long and hard battle with cancer, her family knows that Marsha would want to aid the organization in their advocacy, research, and patient support as they improve the lives of people with cancer, as well as their families.
The family will be holding their own, private service to celebrate and honor Marsha at a later date. The family would like to thank everyone who has helped, prayed, and reached out during this difficult time.
Marsha’s legacy of love and dedication will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her commitment to service and family will be fondly remembered and celebrated by those left behind.
