Martha Frances Bowen Hargis passed away on July 13, 2023. She was born in Greenville, TX on August 19, 1938. She spent her childhood in Dallas, TX. She graduated from North Dallas High School then attended Texas Tech University. She moved to Little Rock, AR in 1958 after her marriage to her husband, Kelly Hargis. She received her BA from Little Rock University and a MSE from the University of Central Arkansas. She was an elementary school teacher and principal in the Pulaski County Special School District. She served as a volunteer at the Easter Seals Adult Center, Youth Home and was a long time volunteer at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Martha is survived by her grandchildren, Cydney, Aidan, and Calvin; daughter-in-law Toni; brother, George; niece, Jacque Nelles (Charles); and nephew, Mike Bowen (Margaret). She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Hargis; husband, Kelly Hargis; and mother, Veta Hall Jones. 

A visitation will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. Little Rock, AR, followed by a memorial service for both Martha and her son, Mark who passed away on December 6, 2022. She will be laid to rest at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave, North Little Rock, AR at 12:00 pm on Friday August 25, 2023.
