Listen to Obituary

Martha Ann VanPelt, 88, of Sherwood, Arkansas, passed away on July 15, 2025. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1937, Martha was the daughter of the late Maxine and Louis “Eddie” Kirk. She is survived by her three sons, Albert VanPelt Jr., Kirk VanPelt (Kelly), and Scott VanPelt (Lisa), along with a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Albert VanPelt Sr., and her son, Steven VanPelt. Martha was a loving wife and mother who dedicated herself to supporting her sons. She served as a PTA member, substitute teacher, and Cub Scout Den Leader, and rarely missed a sporting event. A longtime member of Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church, Martha was devoted to her faith and community. Once her sons were older, Martha returned to college and earned her Accounting degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1984. She joined Alltel in 1985 as an accountant, passed her CPA exam in 1986, and was promoted to General Accounting Supervisor in 1987. She continued her career there until retiring in 2001. Martha had a deep love for family gatherings and holidays. Whether hosting events at her home or the North Little Rock Women’s Club, she was passionate about preparing full-course meals that brought people together. Martha will be laid to rest at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Arkansas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org.
