Listen to Obituary
Heaven gained a new angel on the morning of July 25, 2013. Martha Jane Whitten was born on June 30, 1919 in El Paso, Arkansas. She was the second child born to Henry and Hessie Lorene Sullivan. Martha married Leo Whitten on January 28, 1939, and had one son. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Leo Whitten, sister Rosie Mae King, brothers Carl, John L., and Roy Sullivan. She is survived by her son Dr. Don Whitten and his wife Rita, three granddaughters Robin Jackson (Kip), Lauren Watt (Brandon), and Alison Whitten, and several nieces and nephews. Martha was an excellent gardener, starting the North Heights Garden Club and was a member of the North Little Rock Horticulture Society. Her claim to fame was her award winning iris garden, which at one time hosted over 800 varieties of irises. Martha was an active member at Faith Baptist Church, participating in Sunday School, Golden Agers, and the Widows Group. Martha was an avid dominoes player and loved to play every Tuesday night with her church friends. She was always happiest spending time in her garden and making memories with her family.
