Martin Hearne

Martin Lee "Skip" Hearne, 66, of North Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on June 14, 2017 after a five month fearless fight with cancer. Skip was born July 24, 1950 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated from North Little Rock High School and Hendrix College. Skip worked for DXC Technology as a System Engineer. Previously he worked at Windstream, Alltel and Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
He was a devoted and most precious husband. He was looking forward to planning his retirement with his wife Peggy, doing all the things they had dreamed for over 26 years. Skip was witty, warm and tender-hearted. He loved the Lord, his family, his friends, Dottie Dog, annual Road Trips with close friends, his Les Paul electric guitar, Blues, Rock N Roll, his motorcycle and grilling every Sunday afternoon. He loved to play his guitar loudly to the music of BB King, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Etta James, Jeff Beck, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Muddy Waters, Louie Armstrong, Tran-Siberian Orchestra and too many more to list. He was somehow able to channel the artist's deep groaning and oppression through his music. Every time he picked up his guitar he would start out with the song "Spirit in the Sky" or "La Grange".
He loved his church Fellowship North where he served multiple terms on the Elder Board and as an Usher on the First Impressions Team led by Esther Crawford. He was a member of Fellowship North MOO (Men of the Ozarks) and Men's Bible Study led by Harold Nash.
Many thanks to the caring staff at Springhill Baptist Hospital, especially Michelle Foster and Dr. Scott Harrington who helped care for him daily the last week of his life. Many thanks to Shaunda Stewart for spending her lunch hour at the hospital helping care for Skip. Special thanks to Suse Holmes who walked every step of the way with us the last few days of his life. A special thanks to Peggy's Manager @ AT&T (Jane Martin) whose compassion allowed Peggy to spend every remaining precious moment with her husband. A special thanks to Peggy's WOO (Women of the Ozarks) sisters who circled Peggy and Skip like angels from his initial diagnosis. Many thanks to the literally hundreds of friends, neighbors, co-workers, family and extended family for the visits, texts, phone calls, emails, private messages, gifts and prayers. It is truly overwhelming the love that has been poured out in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord during this time of deep grief.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Noble P. and Phyllis Beckstrom Hearne.
He is survived by his wife Peggy S. Hearne of North Little Rock; brother Ricky B. Hearne (Paula) of North Little Rock; sister-in-law Linda L. Eason (Cliff) of St. Louis, Missouri; nephew Heath H. Hearne (Cheryl) of North Little Rock; nieces; Josetta L. Bogdon (Randy) of Austin, Texas, Linetta J. Harris (Mike) of St. Louis, Missouri, Hollie H. Sandlin (Adam) of North Little Rock; great nephews; Michael Harris, Brandon Harris, Tyce Bogdon and great nieces; Rachel Harris (God Daughter), Brittan, Hadley and Eliot Sandlin.
We have been covered in the blood of Jesus Christ every step of the way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship North or Castle Bluff in care of Fellowship North. Skip was a man after God's own heart. He loved unconditionally. If you did not know him, you have truly missed someone special. He finished well.
