Mary Catherine Berg, a woman of profound faith, was called home to the Lord on April 12, 2026, at the age of 66. She passed away peacefully, fortified by the Last Rites of the Holy Catholic Church and surrounded by family she so dearly loved. She resided in Benton, Arkansas.
Mary Catherine was born on December 16, 1959, in Little Rock, Arkansas to John A. Berg, Jr and Bonnie Berg. She was raised in a deeply devoted Catholic family and continued this journey through her education at St. Edward’s Catholic School and graduated from Mount Saint Mary Academy in 1978. As an adult, she was a devoted parish member of the Cathedral of St. Andrew's in Little Rock.
Mary Catherine worked as the bookkeeper at the family business, Berg and Son Machine Shop, her entire adult life. Many businesses in Little Rock and surrounding areas knew and appreciated her professionalism and most especially her kindness. Beyond the shop, Mary Catherine was known for her love of music, and she shared her talents with us all. She self-taught the guitar and occasionally would share her gift by providing music during Mass.
Her life was anchored by a deep faith and prayer life and a lifelong consecration to The Divine Mercy. The 3:00 p.m. Hour of Mercy was a sacred time in her daily life, and she lived by the words “Jesus, I Trust in You.” Having chosen St. Bernadette as her confirmation saint, she lived out that devotion through her humility and unwavering trust in God's plan for her. It was through this witness of her faith that she became the Godmother to many nieces and nephews.
Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, John A. Berg, Jr and Bonnie Berg, her brother, Ted Berg, her nephew, Steven Berg and her great niece, Abby Earnest. She is survived by her loving siblings: her brother, Joe Berg (Patsy), her sisters, Carol Berg (John Jackson), Donna Rieck (Bobby), Terri Conrad (Matt), and her sister-in-law, Sandy Berg. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to come to the visitation Monday April 20, 2026, at 6pm at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home (8801 Knoedl Court). Rosary will follow at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday April 21, 2026, at 2pm at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew’s in Little Rock. The Very Reverend Joseph L. de Orbegozo will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Little Rock.
In honor of Mary Catherine’s devotion, the family suggests making memorial donations to The National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA or the Cathedral of St. Andrew’s Little Rock.
“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
