Mary Catherine Darling Barnes

Mary Catherine Darling Barnes, a cherished educator and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on July 28, 1950, Mary lived a life full of purpose, compassion, and dedication.

A proud graduate of DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky, Mary found her calling as a 1st grade school teacher at Inwood Baptist Church, where she passionately nurtured and inspired the minds of young children for 17 years. Her love for Jesus as a child of God shone through in every interaction she had. The care she had for her students was evident in every lesson she taught, and every smile she shared, treating each child as an extension of her family.

Mary’s personality reflected her deep-rooted faith and love for family and friends. She brought joy and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know her and took every opportunity she had to share the gospel. Her family was her greatest source of pride, as well as her dog Mickey who was considered family, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 27 years, Kenneth A. Barnes II; her sons, Michael Ray Darling and his wife, Yessica, and David Lee Darling and his wife, Erica; as well as her beloved grandchildren, Jason Lee Darling and Angela Catherine Darling. Her legacy will also live on through her dear sister, Susan Whitaker.

Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Catherine Palmer; and her late husband, Lee Darling; along with her brothers, Harry Palmer and Jimmy Palmer. Their memories will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who were touched by her grace and kindness.

Mary Catherine Darling Barnes will be remembered not only for her commitment to education but also for the love and joy she brought to her family. Her spirit will remain a guiding light for her loved ones, now and always.
