Mary Damour

Mary Damour, 93, of Little Rock, passed away August 17, 2017. Her life began in 1924 in Mount Olive, N.C. Daughter of a preacher; she had a younger brother and two older sisters. The family moved to Mississippi, and then to Arkansas, where she graduated from Malvern High School, and continued on to the College of the Ozarks. In 1942, she met and married Elbert Allen McCracken. She and "Doc" lived in Stuttgart where they had their children Sue and Pat. They spent 37 years together before parting company in 1979.
While on a world cruise, she met Bill Damour while visiting the Taj Mahal in India. They married in 1981 and settled in Clinton, Iowa. They had three wonderful years together before he died in 1984.
Throughout her life, she maintained leadership roles in various organizations, including United Methodist Women, Girl Scout Council, Nursing Home Administration, Mt. St. Clare Board of Trustees, Grand Prairie Arts Council, and UAMS Women's Auxiliary.
In 1996, she moved back to Little Rock and found a home at Woodland Heights. She created a community among her peers and the Woodland Heights staff through card games and sing-a-longs.
Mary Frances lived boldly, was loved immensely, and will be forever missed by everyone she encountered.
Memorial service will be 7:00 PM on Wednesday with visitation beginning one hour prior to service at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1101 N. Mississippi, Little Rock, AR 72207 or AR Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Way, Little Rock, AR 72202.
