Mary Eloise Fletcher

November 22, 1942 — February 15, 2023

Alexander

Mary Eloise Fletcher, 80, of Alexander, Arkansas passed away on February 15, 2023.  She was born November 22, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Everett and Lois Speer Sr. of Alexander.

Mary was an avid dirt track racing fan and on most Saturdays you would find her in the stands cheering on her favorite drivers.  She enjoyed fishing and could sit in a boat all day if you would let her but you would never catch her eating one bite of it.  Mary liked working word searches and growing flowers, but her biggest joy in life was being with her family.  Mary was a homemaker all of her life and raised 8 children.  She loved children and became “Momma Mary” to many by becoming a mother figure to them and loved them just like her own.  You best believe if they needed correcting she would do that too.  She had a zest for life and lived life her way no matter what anyone thought.

Mary is survived by her sons:  Johnny Fletcher and wife Wilma of Alexander, Norman Fletcher of East End, Ronnie Fletcher and wife Christy of Sardis, and Michael Fletcher of Nashville, Tennessee; daughters:  Amanda Moore of Alexander, Melinda Vergona and husband Joey of Sardis, Patricia Fletcher-Kester and husband Jeremy of Sardis and one daughter-in-law Linda Fletcher of Paron.  She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren:  Derek Fletcher (Ashley), Amberlee Fletcher, Caitlyn Nowlin (Nick), Cameron Fletcher, Lyndsay Moore (Daniel), Logan Moore, Haley Vergona (Dorsey), Kennedy Vergona, Maverick Kester, Irelynn Kester, Elynn Kester, and Chris Barnette;  and her 9 great-grand children:  Brighlee Fletcher, Harper Fletcher, Lincoln Fletcher, Alivia Nowlin, Aubree Nowlin, Averi Harrison, Emma Harrison, Sophira Barnette, and Nevaeh Barnette.  She is survived by her only brother, Everett Speer, Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Mary is preceded in death by her late husband of 50 years, Thomas L. “Shorty” Fletcher; parents; son, Kenneth Fletcher; three grandchildren:  Tony Parsons, Brittney Barnette, and Courtney Fletcher; one great-grandchild, Penelope fletcher; and her sisters:  Jimmie buck and Debbie Speer.
