Mary Koonce

Mary Korena Koonce, 84, of Cabot, passed away peacefully in her home on June 17, 2024. She was born in Tilton, Ark., on March 4, 1940, to Olen McClanahan and Ivey Slocum McClanahan. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, and she took great pleasure in spending time with her family. She was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church, where she attended the Faithful Ladies Bible class and held many dedicated friendships. Mary’s favorite pastimes were watching football, solving word searches and listening to Elvis Presley and George Strait. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, generous spirit and devotion to family and friends. Her faith in Jesus sustained her throughout her life. 

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Geraldine Mashburn, Marlene Little and Minnie Gray McClanahan; brothers, Ken and J.F. McClanahan; and infant daughter, Heida Lea Martin. She is survived by her daughter Mira Evans; grandchildren Mary, Ben and Jude Evans; and special friend Donald Ray Smith. She is also survived by her nieces, Marilyn Campbell and Stephanie Taylor; brother, Ivan McClanahan of Fontana, Cal.; granddog Twix; and a host of extended family members and close friends who will miss her dearly. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice who took such wonderful care of Mary in her last days.
