Mattie Florence Minchew, age 81, of Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m. at the Little Rock Arkansas Heart Hospital, surrounded by family during the quiet beauty of sunset.
Mattie Florence was born on Thursday, May 31, 1945, to the late Earl and Zola Appling. A woman of faith, hard work, and deep family devotion, she spent her life caring for those she loved. On January 29, 1963, she wed her beloved husband, Bob R. Minchew, and together they shared a beautiful life of partnership until his passing on January 26, 1994. For many years, they stood side-by-side as owners and operators of the B & B Grocery on Highway 365 near Highway 104. Following their years in business, Mattie Florence went on to dedicate 20 years of service as a Department Manager at the Walmart in Pine Bluff, where her warm personality and work ethic left a lasting impression. Mattie Florence was a dedicated member of the Baptist faith, finding comfort and strength in her relationship with the Lord throughout her life.
A woman who truly understood the beauty of a well-lived life, Mattie Florence found her greatest joy in life’s simplest pleasures. She was a true minimalist at heart, and loved spending timed with those she loved. Whether she was whipping up a favorite comforting meal in the kitchen, finding the perfect treasure while shopping, or enthusiastically playing games on her iPad, her bright spirit was always on display. She cherished nothing more than a quiet evening watching a Hallmark movie.
Her legacy of love, simplicity, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. In addition to her husband and parents, Mattie Florence was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Appling; and two sisters, Ann Thompson and Betty Webb. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her family, including her devoted son, Brian S.
