Maury C. Riegler passed peacefully in his sleep Monday November 24th. Maury was born on August 21, 1937 to Elizabeth and Andrew H. Riegler, Sr. He was the baby of the family, and was spoiled by his sister, Mary Manetta Riegler Lile, who was 14yrs. older and his brother Andrew H. Riegler, Jr. 7 yrs. older. They all grew up at 1304 College St., raising chickens in their backyard. But Maury had his own duck, which he appropriately named, “Donald.” They were constant companions where Donald followed him everywhere! Apparently, going to the 1st grade at Lutheran School, ducks were not allowed…
Maury attended Eastside Jr. High, Little Rock Central High, then on to teachers college in Brenham, Tx. Later, teaching in Chicago, IL he taught for many years in the Pulaski County School District at Badgett Elementary and Sherwood Elementary.
All the while, Maury maintained a second job at Tedford’s Drug Store for 30+ yrs. For sometime whenever he was out eating in restaurants or anywhere, students would come up and say, “Hi Mr. Riegler! You taught me in the 5th grade or I knew you from Tedford’s”, and most of the time Maury could call them by name, or knew a funny story about a prank that he had to reprimand them for.
For many years his two favorite abodes were Forest Hills Condo and Oaklawn Racetrack, in his box seats with special friends, Rhonda and Rogers Harnish.
Presbyterian Village has been his home for a couple of years, where he has been well taken care of by his special friend, Charles Ssozi, and the good staff with Steve Lewellen, as the Administrator.
Maury had his nephew, Brett Lile, Sr. to look after all his needs and keep him laughing in his final days. With a special friend, Vickie Smith for making goodies for him for many years.
He is survived by a niece, Chere Lile Payne, nephews, Skip Lile, Brett Lile Sr., great nephews, Brendan Lile of Little Rock, Dr Brett H. Lile, Jr. (Dr. Kristen Lile) of Utah, sister-in-law Francelle Riegler, nephews Blake (Gayle) Riegler, all of Little Rock. Brad (Karen) Riegler of Missouri, and a wonderful bunch of lifelong friends.
His wish was to be cremated and his ashes scattered in a “Favorite Place!”
We know that he was welcomed by his best friend, Lloyd Mobley, in Heaven…
