Megan Nicole Carey, 35, passed away on March 5, 2026, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Russellville, Arkansas. She was born on September 25, 1990.
Megan was a joy to everyone who met her. She had a remarkable gift for remembering people’s names and asking about their families and children, always making others feel seen and loved. Megan had Down syndrome, but she never let it define or limit her. She worked hard and lived life with determination, kindness, and a wonderful sense of humor.
She loved reading the Bible, romance novels, and western books. Megan also enjoyed arts and crafts and often spent days carefully making gifts for others, wanting everything to be just perfect. She loved writing letters and notes. Even though she made 100% in spelling at school, she often spelled words the way they sounded to her, something her family lovingly called “Megan-ese.”
Because of her hearing, Megan sometimes heard and said words in her own unique way, which became one of the many things that made her so special and unforgettable. She was sweet, thoughtful, and incredibly funny.
Megan also loved being pampered. She enjoyed swimming, getting her hair done, manicures and getting her “foot nails done.”
Megan is survived by her loving mother, Sherry Carey-Wicker; her father, Leon Carey; her brother, Josh Carey (Marisa her sissy); her nephew, Logan Carey; and her niece, Abby Carey; as well as many aunts, cousins, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Ruby Woodall and Rose Carey; her grandfather, David Carey; her aunts, Marie Felts and Tina Neighbors; her uncles, Larry Felts, Lonnie Woodall, and Tommy Hindman; and her stepfather, Dennis Wicker.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt love and gratitude to the many people who helped and supported Megan throughout the years. There are far too many to name, but your kindness and care will never be forgotten.
A memorial service to celebrate Megan’s life will be held on March 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home in Glenwood, Arkansas. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Glenwood Library immediately following the service.
Megan’s warmth, laughter, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
