Melvin Trennon Jolly, 89, of Little Rock passed away on February 3, 2017. He was born in Edinburg, MS, on August 24, 1927, to Warner A. and Dessie "Leona" (Pigg) Jolly. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a 1949 graduate of Mississippi State University. Melvin and his wife, Bobbie Jean, lived in Gulfport, MS, for 59 years. After a long career in sales, he retired from Coast Materials Concrete Company (Gulfport) at the age of 72. He was a dedicated member of The First Baptist Church of Gulfport, MS, where he was an active deacon and choir member for over 50 years. In addition, he served as a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. After moving to Little Rock in 2012, Melvin and Bobbie Jean transferred their church membership to Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Jean (Brown) Jolly of Little Rock; daughter, Sharon Long (Nicholas) of Little Rock; grandchildren, Justin Trennon Long (Erin) of Little Rock, Alex Edward Long (Sharonda) of Little Rock, and great-grandson, Trennon Edward Long of Little Rock. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joy Hamill and brother, Colton Jolly.
In every way, he lived life to the fullest. We will grieve our loss. We will heal. We will remember.
There will be a memorial gathering celebrated by family and friends on Tuesday, February 7th at 5:30 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday, February 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Edinburg, MS.
