Michael R. Bonnette, Captain U.S. Navy Supply Corps, Ret, passed away on June 21, 2024. Mike was born in Bethesda, MD on May 1, 1948. After graduating high school in Jackson, MS, Mike joined the US Navy in 1967 and was a US Navy Submarine Cook for 15 years. Commissioned an Ensign Naval Supply Officer (by his father) in 1981, he continued an outstanding career serving as a Supply Officer on Submarines, Submarine Repair Ships, Surface War Ships, Commanding Office Shore Activity and retired as the Submarine Pacific Supply Officer responsible for proving support for all submarines assigned to the Pacific. Mike had thirty-eight years of honorable and exemplary service in the U.S. Navy. Included amongst his many commendations are: the Legion of Merit: Meritorious Service Medal (4), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, Command-at-Shore Insignia, Supply Corps Officer Surface and Submarine Warfare Insignia, Enlisted Submarine Warfare Insignia and SSBN Deterrent Patrol Insignia with nine Stars. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, LTJG USN (ret) George and Helen Bonnette, his first wife of forty-three years, Patricia (Buffy) Bonnette and son, David Bonnette. Mike is survived by his wife, Lynn Bonnette of Hot Springs, AR; his son, John Bonnette and wife, Teresa, of Port Orchard, WA; his daughters-in-law Jennifer Humiston-Bonnette of Gresham, OR and Monica Bonnette of Bremerton, WA. He has three grandchildren: Alexandra Bonnette, Port Orchard, WA; Seth Spencer, Port Angeles, WA; and Kiya Bonnette, Gresham, OR. He is survived by a brother and three sisters: CDR USN (ret) John Bonnette and his wife, Delores, Paris, TX; Sue Grady, Laurinburg, NC; Linda Bonnette Edwards and her husband, Harry, College Station, TX; Cindy Van Landingham and her husband, Claude Clarke, Monroe, LA.

The family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice rather than sending flowers.

Services under the care of Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs AR. 

Michael’s ashes will be interred during a small graveside service with full military honors at Lakeside Cemetery in Camden, AR at 11:00 am on Monday, July 1st.
