Michael Shane Christian, age 40, of Hot Springs, passed away on October 5, 2023.

 

He was born on May 7, 1983, in Waco, Texas, the son of Michael D. Christian and Martha Ann Laufenberg Hurst.  He was preceded in death by his mother; his grandparents, John and Margie Laufenberg and Doyce and Jackie Christian; one uncle, Steve Christian; one aunt, Kim Sutphin; and his stepbrother, Brian Hurst.

 

During his formative years, Shane attended Governor's School in the 11th and 12th grade.   He had the opportunity to develop his musical talents while in school. It was during this time that he discovered a special love for the saxophone. With each note he played, Michael thoroughly enjoyed playing music.

One of Shane's proudest accomplishments was achieving the esteemed position of 1st chair in six states during his tenure in high school. This remarkable achievement not only showcased his exceptional musical skill but also served as a testament to his unwavering dedication and tireless work ethic. His performances left an indelible imprint on all those fortunate enough to witness them.  Shane will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

He is survived by his father, Michael D. Christian; his stepfather, Rodney Hurst; one brother, Noah Hurst, all of Hot Springs; uncle and aunt, John and Kathy Laufenberg of Crawford, Texas; aunt, Melinda Snelgrove of Lexington, South Carolina; his cousins, Brent Christian of Little Rock, John Michael Laufenberg, Kaylynn Laufenberg, both of Crawford, Texas, Abby Tipton, Marjie Tipton,  and Noa Tipton all of Lexington, South Carolina; his canine friend, Bonnie; numerous extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

 

A family conducted graveside service will be held at 2:30PM, Saturday, October 21, 2023, in the Lowe Cemetery pavilion, Royal.

 

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
