Mickey Roberts died Saturday morning surrounded by her loving family. Mickey was born May 18, 1925, the daughter of Charles Robert and Willie Essie (Armstrong) Knowles.
She was a graduate of Central High School in 1944, homemaker and a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church. Mickey was the quintessential Southern Belle. Born the baby of a large adoring family, little changed when she met and married Dave. As her daughters were born, she became the perfect mother; never missing a piano lesson or school function, all the while being an active community volunteer. She was a proud wife and frequently a gracious "first lady" to the many organizations her husband led. When Dave entered politics she was the perfect politician's wife. She campaigned energetically for her husband and later for both daughters as they sought public office.
The biggest joys of her life were her three grandchildren. She was a doting and adoring grandmother. Having raised only girls she quickly became a vocal supporter at the Little League and soccer games for her two grandsons. With her granddaughter she passed along a love of clothes and a passion for shoes. When asked to describe herself she frequently said "I married an over achiever; got careless and raised two more, and I am chief cheerleader for all of them."
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, David Earl Roberts of North Little Rock; two daughters, Debra K Roberts (Michael Abele) and Patti Roberts Julian (Jim) all of North Little Rock; grandchildren, Nicholas Lincoln Rogers, Clayton Armstrong Rogers and Kathryn Elizabeth Julian.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Boyd, Cecil and Carter Knowles; sisters, Ruby Thomasson and Bernice Sosebee.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Lakewood United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 noon Tuesday at the church.
