Mildred Lawless, affectionately known as "Millie," passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born Mildred Ann Martin on October 12, 1935, in Monticello, Arkansas, she lived a life filled with warmth, dedication, and an unmistakable zest for life that touched everyone around her.
Millie’s career was a testament to her strong work ethic and commitment. She began working as a switchboard operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone, a role requiring both patience and attentiveness. Her talents then led her to Petlaw Chemical Company in Houston which was owned by her husband Pete. She then moved into the educational field as an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent at Pasadena Independent School District in Pasadena, Texas. Throughout her career, she was known for her meticulous attention to detail and her professional, friendly demeanor.
Education played an important role in Millie’s life. She attended Arkansas A and M in Monticello, Arkansas, where she laid the foundation for the many chapters of her remarkable journey. Her pride extended beyond professional achievements; she was especially proud of her role in caring for her home and family, nurturing a haven filled with love and joy.
Millie was a woman brimming with vibrancy—bubbly, happy, and always impeccably well-dressed. She loved to talk and share stories, her conversations imbued with warmth and laughter that instantly brightened any room. Painting was one of her pastimes, offering her a peaceful outlet for creativity. Alongside her late husband, Peter Lawless, she traveled extensively to gun shows across the country, sharing in the unique hobby of gun collecting. These shared adventures were among the treasured memories that defined their life together, and Millie deeply loved spending time with her husband, a bond that remained a central joy in her life.
Millie was the beloved daughter of the late Byron and Hazel Martin and sister to the late Jerrene Dishongh and Tony Martin. She is survived by her dear brother Richard Martin and his wife Shanie; her nieces Amy Cunningham (Scott) and Lisa Dishongh; nephew Joe Dishongh; and cherished god-daughter Vicki Anger (Wally). Each of these family members holds a special place in her heart and carry forward her memory with love.
Though Millie has departed from this world, her spirited presence remains ever vivid in the lives of those who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and joyful expression will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of her story.
The family plans to hold a burial service at a later date to honor Millie's life and the profound impact she made on those around her.
Mildred Lawless leaves behind a legacy of love, happiness, and an enduring spirit that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered, a shining light that continues to guide those who loved her.
