The Life Story of Mildred Moore Pate

Mildred Moore Pate was born October 25, 1952, to Thomas Moore and Ruby T. Moore in Rocky Ford, Georgia. She embraced life with a determination to make a difference in the world, overcome obstacles, do her very best, and finish anything she starts. She was a beautiful, hardworking woman with a heart and spirit bigger than her size. Mildred attended grade school and college in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She excelled in academics and received a Bachelor’s degree from Claflin College and a master’s degree from Georgia Southern University. She worked as a professor of writing and linguistics. At the age of 25, Mildred participated in two life-changing events; she was baptized and married to Edward Earl Pate. From their union, they had two beautiful daughters, Althea and Alethia.

Mildred Pate was a military wife so she had the opportunity to travel in Europe and live in Germany. Later she traveled extensively due to sharing words of wisdom and expertise at conferences and attending women’s biblical conventions. She was well known and loved for cooking delicious meals, ‘making space for others”, claiming extra adoptive children, and working wholeheartedly for the church and Lord. She passed away a faithful servant to the Lord. Her last few years were filled with the joy of working in her current congregation, Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, spending quality time with grandkids by attending events, hosting summer ‘nana camps”, and attending what she called the trip of a lifetime, a ten-day Alaskan Cruise. Mildred’s life can be summed up by a phrase she said about herself two months ago, “I am so blessed!”

Mildred leaves to love and cherish her memories, her husband Edward Pate, and two daughters Althea Harris (Ray) and Alethia Long (Chris). One honorary daughter, Abigail Stone (Micheal); grandchildren: Zoe and Kingston Long, Harmony Harris; step-grandchildren: Diamond and Chris Long Jr. and Yasmine Harvey; step-great-grandchildren: Dillon and Nova St. Hilair; honorary grandchildren: Daisha and Micheal Stone Jr. and Jada Curtis; honorary great-grandchild: Heavenly Sage Peevler; siblings: Joseph Moore, Lula Statham, Thomas Moore Jr., Mary Bufford, Rylance Moore. She also has a host of adoptive kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Ruby T. Moore, and siblings Hattie Williams, JW Moore, and Marie Porter. She will be celebrated at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Little Rock, AR on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 3:00 pm.
