Monya Thomas

Monya Litton Thomas entered into her loving saviors arms, who she has served all of her earthly life, on December 14, 2017.
Monya was born in Kilgore, Texas on April 8, 1939 to LD and Wilma Litton. She only weighed 3 pounds when she was born and doctors were doubtful she would live. Her mother, Wilma was superstitious and would not name her for fear that she wouldn't life. Her aunt Norma Moman gave her the name Monya. She spent a month in the hospital and wore hand sewn doll clothes and slept in a dresser drawer for a bed. Although the grim prognosis, she proved them wrong and grew up a healthy, young girl. The family moved to Gurdon, where she attended elementary and graduated high school. Monya attended Southern State College in Magnolia, where she met Lawrence Lee Thomas, her future husband. They were married September 7, 1958. Monya never had any sibling of her own, so when she married into Lawrence's family, they lovingly adopted her as one of their own.
She was a stay at home mom until her youngest child started school. She embarked upon a career at JC Penny's as a sales associate at McCain Mall in North Little Rock. She continued this for 12 years until a stroke forced her to retire. Once again God intervened giving her the strength and determination to come to an almost full recovery with lots of hard work and determination. This allowed her family and friends to be able to love and cherish her for 30 more years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, LD and Wilma Litton; her mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Jewell Thomas Sr.; brother-in-law, Jimmy Thomas; and daughter-in-law, Starla Thomas.
Survivors include, her husband, Lawrence Thomas, of Sherwood; daughter, Laura and her husband, William "Chuck" Lowe, of Sherwood; a son, Larry Dowell Thomas, of Cato; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Ann Thomas, of Powderly, Texas; sister-in-law, Alice Ann Stevens, of Bella Vista; sister, Margert ann Thomas, of Gilmer, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; grandchildren, Joshua Vaughn and his wife, Heather, of Benton; Jessica Vaughn, of Jacksonville; and Daniel White, of Sherwood; great-grandchildren, Noah Cade, Emily Vaughn, and Brandon.
She will be forever missed. Sometimes a person's light shines so brightly, you can still see it once they are gone.
